Introduction

The man God created in His image and likeness is an embodiment of the wisdom of God. His ability to control everything God created stemmed from his capacity to be wise. It takes a lot of wisdom to exercise enduring authority. In dominion, wisdom is the principal thing. While transformational power helps to bring man into the realm of God where he can exercise dominion for God, wisdom helps to establish man in God’s realm. Every kind of wisdom has its strength. It is risky to have power without wisdom. The wise will always know what to do and when to do it. The intelligence Adam had to name the beasts of the field for God stemmed from his wisdom. Wisdom has knowledge. Wisdom can see. It is the continuous fellowship of men with the Spirit of wisdom that makes them gods. Men have to be brought to the realm of gods before they can be in charge for God.

The wise submit to the Spirit of wisdom. It is what the Spirit of wisdom makes out of men that they must depend on to exercise dominion. There is safety in wisdom. Wisdom gives understanding. It delivers from error. The wise don’t stumble. The reason why Jesus Christ was successful in His messianic ministry was because He submitted totally to the Spirit of wisdom. His miracle power was established in wisdom. It is wrong to seek dominion when we have not given the Spirit of wisdom its due place. Submitting to the Spirit of wisdom prepares men for dominion. Since it is what we submit to that gives us destiny, we need the direction that the Spirit of wisdom provides if we must exercise lasting dominion.

Christ is the wisdom of God who imparted the man Jesus to exercise dominion for Him. The dominion of Jesus Christ was from sea to sea and from one end of the earth to the other. God gives men dominion over the works of their hands. This is why dominion can’t be separated from work. There is nothing like general dominion. Every kind of dominion that wisdom gives is a measured dominion. God gives men wisdom to exercise dominion over their vision. The first man exercised dominion in Eden. Eden was the garden of his vision. Adam exercised dominion in Eden as he dressed and kept the garden. Because God gives men dominion over the works of their hands, idle men can’t exercise dominion.

God gave Adam dominion over the edenic garden and gave the man Jesus power to fulfill the messianic ministry of Christ. Wisdom sets boundary on dominion. It is not possible for us to exercise dominion over things we are not meant to control. The Spirit of wisdom prepares men to exercise unique dominion. Until men understand the kind of dominion they are meant to exercise, it will be difficult for them to enjoy the support of God. Outside Eden, Adam couldn’t exercise dominion because he had lost the control of God. God gives dominion only to those who submit to Him.

The measure of dominion God gives us is controlled by how we react to work. The only acceptable work we must work is the work of dressing and keeping the vision of our life.

The life of Eden was sustained as Adam dressed and kept the garden. Because we were born to accomplish different kinds of assignments for God, we are meant to establish different kinds of dominion. We were not born to get busy with every kind of work. The Spirit of wisdom encourages men to work only the work that has their name. Adam couldn’t exercise dominion outside Eden because there is no dominion in visionlessness. The lawless world where Adam found himself after treason couldn’t sustain his value in the sight of God. Sweating and tilling the ground was not part of the dominion of the first man. If we want to exercise dominion for God, we need to discover the vision of our lives and fulfill it.
