THE HANGING SERPENT
INTRODUCTION
God doesn’t solve problems caused by men. The source of every problem is expected to produce its solution. The solution of every problem will always look like the problem. God will not do for man what man should do for himself. When the Israelites grumbled against God and Moses on their way to the promised land, the Lord sent fiery serpents against them. The Bible says that much Israelites died. The fiery serpents didn’t come from heaven, they emanated from the fallen nature of the Israelites. God knew that if such nature was not altered, the prayer of Moses would not be impactful. Therefore, He instructed Moses to make a copper serpent to be hung upon a pole for those who were bitten by the fiery serpents to look and live. The destiny of every man is in the hand of the man. Men are expected to produce solution for every problem they create.
The copper serpent was hung because it was expected to produce healing. God used the copper serpent to heal those who were bitten by the fiery serpents so as to teach them that their problem was not the serpents but themselves. Those who look for the solutions of their problems outside themselves will always be frustrated. The copper serpent was in a hanging position so that man can learn to be part of the answers he seeks.
Jesus Christ was crucified in-between heaven and the earth as a replica of the copper serpent that Moses made in the wilderness. Jesus Christ accomplished redemption from a hanging position. God decided to hang Jesus on the wooden cross because He wants us to be part of whatever He will accomplish in our lives. All who made reasonable impact on earth knew that what God needs to impart the earth must come from man. Grumbling can’t end in the lives of those who abandon themselves to circumstances.
It was possible for Jesus Christ to conquer death and satan because He died in-between heaven and the earth. Dying in-between heaven and the earth gave Jesus dominion over all realms. The redemptive power of Jesus was associated with the hanging position.
Dying in-between heaven and the earth revealed the Son ship of Jesus Christ. There is always something to lose so as to gain another thing. Jesus was sacrificed by dying in a hanging position because of all that He would achieve through it. The hanging position of Jesus was a healing position. Man must look unto whatever will alleviate His pain and misery. Whosoever chooses to heal the wounds of men must be wounded. By the stripes of Jesus, we are healed. God will not heal men if a man is not wounded for their healing. The Holy Spirit through the agency of this book, is calling all believers to a resourceful life. God wants us to position ourselves as a solution to the numerous challenges of men in this season. Divinity can only rest upon wounded humanity. God wounds men to depend on their wounds to heal those who are wounded by the devil. We must learn to identify with the wounded side of Jesus if we must enjoy the shield of God. The wounded side of Jesus connects us to God.
One of the reasons Jesus Christ was crucified was to help us to see ourselves the way God sees us. What God will accomplish through us will always be controlled by what He accomplishes in us. The incarnate Christ took the man Jesus to the cross to add value to His personal life. Jesus Christ died to deliver to man what He took from God.
However, you were born because the earth needs you. Your relevance is estimated by the problem you were born to solve. God enthrones men through the problem they solve. The hanging position is a problem solving position. The problem men solve establishes their legacies on earth. The man Jesus is sitting on the heavenly throne because of what God achieved through Him. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, He established the throne of the King of kings and Lord of lords.
The hanging position alters the destiny of men. It was at the hanging position that a brazen serpent became a healing serpent. Those who pay price for God to use them to proffer solution to the challenges of the earth will always wear the crown of their contributions. God preserved the humanity of Jesus because of all that Christ accomplished through Him. The humanity of Jesus was clothed with the divinity of the cross.
Moreover, there is power in looking at a right direction. God blesses our sight when we are conscious of the direction we are looking at. God will not deny men whatever they have eyes to see and strength to take. It was not everyone that looked on the copper serpent that was healed. There is great difference between mere looking and seeing what you are looking at.
God instructed Moses to command those bitten by the fiery serpent to look at the hanging serpent for their healing because of the power that is associated with looking. Those who see themselves clearly will never be denied the healing power of the slain Lamb. There are so much revelational truths laden in the enlightening pages of this inspiring book.
Make it a must read.
