SELF-DISCOVERY AND IDENTITY
INTRODUCTION
When I graduated from the university and was posted to the then Bendel State of Nigeria as a Corps member, I came face to face with the reality of what I must use my life to do on earth. For the first time in my life, a sense of maturity began to creep into me. There was need for me to determine what was the next thing to do after my N.Y.S.C programme. I was faced with so many options from which I had to make my choice. As a devoted believer, I went to God severally in prayers but couldn’t get a direct answer. I then resorted to doing what I thought was right and befitting. The quest in me was to discover the perfect will of God for me. But what I did not know was that a man cannot discover the will of God for his life outside the discovery of himself. I couldn’t get answers to my questions because I sought the will of God outside myself. I waited for an audible voice to shout from the sky but there was no such thing.
The Holy Ghost persuaded me to write this book because there are far too many people who still wait for voices here and there. Since there was no voice, I used my instinct and my ability/endowment to fish out a future. This encounter welcomes me to the spiritual/revelation pedestal where I wrote this book. A man cannot be more valuable than his encounters. The answers to my questions would have come faster if I had known that to seek God and the future, I must first seek myself. The pain and years of labour I invested in the search for the truth must help whosoever has this book and wants to engage in a journey of self-discovery.
Man is part of God; that is why man cannot be separated from God. God cannot be separated from the man that introduced Him to the earth. This is why He wears different faces and manifests in different ways. Men who introduced God to the earth introduced Him from themselves. Therefore the act of seeking God must involve our relationship with man. The breath of God in the nostril of man attracts God continuously to man. The best way to serve God is to serve Him from our discovered self.
The successful journey of every man’s life must start from the discovery of himself. When men are not discovered, they are lost. The encounter of God with man must start with self-discovery. It is only a discovered man that God can bless tangibly. God didn’t anoint David until David found himself. It is what we know about ourselves that determines the type of oil God will pour upon us. God and man call us what we call ourselves and until we know ourselves, God waits on us. There are many blessings that God has not given us because He waits for us to tell Him who we are. God cannot relate with a man outside the man. The events of our lives must stem from the story of our lives. This is why this book in your hand deals with various media through which we can know ourselves. The course on self-discovery is so important that it can help you to know yourself and determine your situations. There are numerous blessings God cannot give to us until we have discovered ourselves. Adam was able to identify Eve because he knew himself. He knew the Eve was taken from him because he knew himself. He knew that Eve was taken from him because he knew how he looked like. We must not marry until we know how we look like because the woman a man must marry is a woman that is taken from him. It is only a woman that came from a man that can be one with the man. Any form of prayer to discover God’s will in marriage must assist us to know ourselves. There are things we must know about ourselves before we choose a life partner. There are also things we need to know about our spouses before we marry them. If people will be patient to know themselves before marriage, I think breaking of homes will end.
Moreover, men cannot do great exploits until they discover themselves. In Judges 6, Gideon invested his strength on threshing of wheat until the angel of the Lord came to him. If he was not visited by the angel of the Lord, he would have wasted his life in the activities of defeated men. When we discover who we are, we also discover what we have ability to accomplish.
Men put on divinity through self-discovery. God emphasizes the importance of self-knowledge; that is why the spirit in John was revealed to his parents before he was born. Men should know themselves before they can accomplish God-given purposes.
It is not possible to accomplish vision without discovering the purpose of God in your life. It is only a discovered man that can accomplish vision. When Joseph dreamt from himself, his brothers sold him because they knew that the dreams of a man represent the man. Men are also represented by the thought of their life. When we identify the traditions that govern the way we live, we can be discovered. This book is loaded with insight on how a man can discover himself.
